Dimensions & Structure:
Purpose:
- Platform:The ring is a square platform, typically 16 to 22 feet (4.9 to 6.7 meters) square within the ropes.
- Ropes:Four ropes, approximately 1 inch (25mm) in diameter, are stretched between corner posts at heights of 18, 30, 42, and 54 inches (0.46, 0.76, 1.07, and 1.37 meters) above the mat.
- Padding:The ring floor is padded with about 1 inch (25mm) of closed-cell foam rubber or a chemical equivalent, covered with stretched canvas.
- Apron:The ring apron, the area outside the ropes, extends at least 2 feet (0.61 meters) beyond the ropes.
- Corner Pads:Corner pads are attached to the corner posts for added safety.
- Corner Posts:Corner posts rise around 5 feet (1.5 meters) above the mat and are covered with padding.
- Floor:The floor is covered with felt, rubber, or other suitably approved material, soft in quality and elasticity, not less than 1.5cm and no more than 2.0cm thick.
- Canvas:The padding is covered with a non-slip canvas.

- According to the regulations of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), tennis' global governing body, a competitive tennis court must be rectangular in shape, measuring 23.77 metres long. The width, however, differs for doubles (10.97 metres) and singles (8.23 metres). A geotextile membrane is laid at formation level, prior to the sub-base being placed and compacted to finished level tolerance of + 25mm / – 50mm. As a tennis court is a porous construction, it is also important to include a perimeter drain, below the level within the subsoil.
